I have been meaning and meaning to post a recap about the brilliant Netflix show, The Politician. However, every time I sit down to start, I’m not sure where to begin. Mostly because I don’t know how to write a recap without giving too much away.

So what I will say is this: just watch it. If not for Ben Platt, then watch for Gwyneth; she’s brilliant in it. The show is an extremely easy binge because some episodes run a full 45 min to hour, but some are only 20 or so minutes long. If you were a Glee or Scream Queen fan, you’ll more than enjoy it, Plus, the final episode sets the show up to have an amazing second season.

How I feel when everyone is discussing the VMAs:

As I’ve pondered numerous times, I think I’m too old for anything MTV, especially the VMAs. For that reason, I didn’t plan to recap or blog the show, however, after watching and scrolling and hearing so much about the big moments, I obviously felt I, too, had to comment.

The opener was T Swizzle & obviously one of the main reasons we were all there. During “You Need to Calm Down,” I was all …

I lived for her blinged purple jacket and her guitar playing!!

Another performance I was SO PUMPED for was the JoBros! I was a little upset that it wasn’t live, but their performance (and Joe’s Canadian Tuxedo) made me …

I just love them so much!

But. The most EPIC performance of the night was Queen Lizzo!

Between her outfit, dancers, the giant inflated booty, and her singing “Good as Hell,” her performance had me like …

I may be a little late to the Lizzo hype, but I’m all in on her now! Her self acceptance and message of positivity is what the world needs more of and I’m here for her success!

Miley, Normani, Lil Nas, and many people I didn’t know also performed, along with Shawn Mendes …

… then Shawn Mendes round two with Camila Cabello …

I still don’t believe they’re actually dating. Nor, do I want to believe it. Because, while I unhealthily stan Shawn Mendes, I despise Camila Cabello (RIP Fifth Harmony), and want better for him.

In closing, the show was fun to watch, albeit a little too long for this 30 something mama, but again, always fun.

Chasing Happiness

“Hey brothers, you want to do something awesome together?”

You guys. This documentary is EVERYTHING!!!

And I’m not even a Jonas Brother stan, at least not originally. “Burning Up” was/is probably one of my top 10 favorite songs ever, and I did buy their self titled album in college, but I didn’t closely follow them like a true stan. Watching this documentary changed all that.

I’m officially a hardcore JoBro fan!

… and for so many reasons! I love their new music, think they have grown into wonderfully handsome men, am OBSESSED with their three wives, and after watching Chasing Happiness, really feel like I understand them as individuals, but also as a band. Because of the struggles and the journey they went through as siblings to where they are now, makes me appreciate them even more.

I don’t want to go too much into detail about what the documentary entails (if you have Amazon Prime, go watch it NOW!). I loved how much backstory was given in regards to forming the band and getting it started, to them losing everything (which I knew nothing of). The doc then moved on to show the brothers’ successes, public scrutiny, resentment of one another, to the eventual breakup heard around the world (with so much more sprinkled in I didn’t know). The doc then covered their solo careers, plus Kevin’s life as a family man, and the strain it all put on their relationships as brothers. The most interesting part to me was their “honesty drinking game” they played in which they had to answer questions I’m assuming they wrote for each other. I felt a little bit as if I was creeping in on something too personal that I shouldn’t be a part of; the guys share that much and it’s that real.

‘NSYNC at Coachella (a Pocket-Sized Post …)

Yet, that is what we are here to discuss right now: boy bands. Being thirty years old, I proudly admit I’m an early 2000’s boy band fan. I was 12 years old when ‘NSYNC’s No Strings Attached album was released, and at the time, nothing else mattered in my life but their music.

Yet, ‘NSYNC dissolved and everyone blames Justin. Well, what can I say, I’m a #JTDayOne as shown in the following evidence: Top 5 Celebs … who made your list?, Super Bowl Half Time Show — I Can’t Take It Anymore, and my cellphone wallpaper. I’ve seen him solo twice now, and he forever will do no wrong in my eyes.

But before there was Justin, there was ‘NSYNC . While I love love love to see them back in the news, back on stage, anything to get them relevant again, the reunion at Coachella with Ariana didn’t sit well with me for a few reasons. Let’s dive deeper …

a) First and foremost, I hate the fact that all this shade is being thrown at JT because he wasn’t there; he was just coming off of his final show for the Man of the Woods Tour (115 shows people!). When the rumors started that the guys may be reuniting, I about 95% knew Justin wouldn’t be there, yet I held out some hope because …

b) ‘NSYNC is not ‘NSYNC if they aren’t all together. Did they sound amazing, especially with Ari’s backup? HELL YES! But it just seemed broken, and to me, ‘NSYNC was always always always be a cut above the rest. However, with it only being four of them, it seemed sad and fractured (as does any band that reunites without full members).

c) Lastly, they’re old and I get this. I’m old. Shoot, even Justin is old. He slipped and hurt his knee, plus had bruised vocal cords during this last tour. But seeing a young Ariana Grande grinding on old man JC, and then on Joey, who has a teenage daughter, was too awkward to watch.

But let’s get to the main point of all of this …

Deep down, it kills me that ‘NSYNC is no longer together and is no longer on top. I hate that the media has to pit them against Justin, even if there really isn’t bad blood (he posted a congrats to them on his IG!!). I hate that they’re old men, even if they can still sing the shiz out of songs. You guys, for me, with ‘NSYNC … ??

And I will never be over the fact that the era of this huge, precious, musical impact on my life is not the same as it was when I first experienced it. But, what kills me most of all? THIS has taken their place ….

which I refuse to understand.

Movie of the Week: Life-Size 2 (pocket-sized post)

Nostalgia and Christmas …

can warm even this cynic’s heart. One of my besties came over to watch it, we gorged on pizza, honestly, it was just what I needed to end a treacherous Monday. The movie was not great (what, like you expected it to be?), but there were so many great moments, that the film in it’s entirety is excused.

Tyra

Straight up, girlfriend is, gor -gina! I looked up pictures from the first movie and she’s stunning then, but 18 years later? No wrinkles in sight, flaw – less !! Not only did she look just like a doll, she acted just like the character from the first movie. Plus, she was funny; she had so many laugh out loud moments. Honestly I would have preferred an entire movie just of Tyra.

I’m a sucker for anything late 90s/early 2000s, aka my childhood (Movie of the Week: Hey Arnold! The Jungle Movie … hello??). The Parent Trap and Life-Size inspiiiired me to be Lindsay Lohan (who really is having a moment without being seen, what, with this reboot, and Ari’s “Thank You, Next” video). There was a brief reference to her character in this version, but what I liked most was how Lindsay’s Eve doll gave the 2018 Eve doll a pep talk. Also, who caught the ANTM reference??

If you’ve seen the first movie, watch this one. If you like sappy, Hallmark Christmas movies, watch this one. It’s not completely terrible. The main character is terrible, but Tyra makes up for it. Plus, the guy in it is pretty hot. And, if not for all of that … not only do you get an original version performance of “Be a Star” in the film … you get this one too!

The Hacker is Here: BB20 Post (Veto Ceremony)

Wednesday’s Veto

Going into tonight’s episode, I couldn’t be happier that Tyler was on the block; don’t get me wrong, I love Tyler and I think he’s playing the best. I was just happy Haleigh finally figured out his snakey ways. However, I also knew he’d probably get himself off the block because he is a beast in competitions.

I have never ever seen someone in this type of competition who finishes second to last actually claim the Veto. I still haven’t decided if it was a good or bad move by Tyler. The plan to put up Bayleigh doesn’t really surprise or upset me; she went on an insane power trip last week. Yet, I am not an Angela fan at all! She did her girl Rachel dirty and I’m just not here for bitchy females. What I would love to see happen is all the girls banding together to get the boys out. I can’t wait to watch tomorrow to see Bayleigh absolutely flip her shizzzz!! (Spoiler … there is an intense house meeting) !!!!!

#RHONY: I Can’t Even!

“Everyone knows Bethenny can be a nightmare! So what! She’s your friend!”

I had planned to wait and blog about the Real Housewives of New York next week … you know, the boat ride we all can’t wait to watch? However, I’m currently six minutes into last night’s episode and I can’t stay quiet any longer!

The fact that Dorinda and Carole have zero sympathy for Bethenny, when she clearly is going through something is mind boggling to me. For Dorinda to basically say Bethenny has burned all her bridges, that’s why no one is comforting her …. ? WHAT! Bethenny may be Bethenny, but if someone is your friend, and they are clearly hurting, you help them, support them, be there for them!

Sonja seems to be the only one to care for Bethenny right now and Dorinda is even mocking that! I’m actually really glad Sonja is telling B everything the women have said; she is winning this season for me!

The OGs

The divide between the ladies could not be more real and seeing Ramona, Sonja, Bethenny, and Luann reminiscing together at lunch is great, great, great! I didn’t know I needed it as much as Bethenny needed it!

Dinner

Let’s just jump right in, shall we? So first, there’s Sonja talking to Bethenny, about Carole asking about Bethenny, while sitting between Carole and Bethenny.

Oh wait, maybe Sonja is sitting next to Tinsley, not Carole? I’m so confused at this point, I mean Carole is smoking and wearing two feather earrings tonight instead of one, how can I not be confused? One thing that I’m not getting confused about … Dorinda spiraling. Her critiques of Luann in my opinion is not something their relationship can come back from. I wouldn’t forgive her if I was Lu.

Final Thoughts

I am not just Team Bethenny because she needs support with all the shit going on in her life, but because I completely agree with her analysis of Carole. Carole is “too cool for school” and has changed. She’s like that one girl at your job or in a friend group you just can’t connect with because you never feel like you’re good enough by her standards. Honestly, writer girl, good riddance on your departure from the show after this season!

As far as Dorinda’s behavior goes, have you ever drank too much and instantly had morning regrets the next day as you were eating a Pedalyte pop? After the Puerto Rico trip with B, how could she do this again? Does she not get insanely embarrassed? I mean, first Luann, then the finger raising comes out at Ramona. Quit throwing stones while living in a glass house Dorinda!

With Lu going back into rehab and all the news about Demi right now, I’m disgusted with Dorinda’s behavior at dinner. If someone is going to get that upset about a friend making a comment like “Oh here she goes …” when being served another drink, maaaaybe the person drinking has the problem.

In the words of many great housewives, “At the end of the day” we all have our issues, these women just put theirs on television for our entertainment. This week’s RHONY was epic and next week’s is going to be even more so …

Gold Medal, aka who deserves Becca’s heart:

Blake is my favorite, and my front runner. While bringing a horse out on After the Final Rose & riding in on a bull night one were both lame, Blake has grown on me. He seems the most real. Saying that falling in love with her was fun, but staying in love with her would be even more fun –> SWOON CITY!! Plus she loves him too! Omg and his dance moves!! Watch out for Blake … he’s here to take it all!!

Silver Medal, aka the first loser, but still special to me:

Jason came out as a dark horse last week, and it was so sweet that Becca brought his friends to their date. I don’t think he did anything special or memorable on the group date, but he made such a strong impression last week I totally ship him and Becca!

Bronze Medal, aka possibly the next Bach?

Noooo … he won’t be the next Bachelor; he has too much controversy tied to him. He’s in third place because while I do think they care about each other, I just can’t get over the fact he had a two month marriage. Plus he seems kind of childish to me … he did tell Becca he felt immature in choosing to get married so young, right? I still feel that immaturity from him now.

Needs to leave next week …

Do we really all believe this man right here is a virgin?! Okaaaayyy, so I shouldn’t judge people based on their personal decisions, but I just can’t help think Colton is an opportunist –> I refuse to let the Tia drama go (she’s back next week too whaaaat!?).
