American Music Awards: the Shortest Recap Ever

So, I live for an award show (click top right corner of this page and find the category “Award Shows”). At least I used to until a tiny human took away all my TV & Twitter time (not that I’m complaining). I watched as much of last night’s AMAs as my baby boy would allow and I have some thoughts ….

I am not here to promote hate or start rumors; I LOVE Selena, but something was off, right? First, her voice & pitch on “Lose You to Love Me” was painful, then when the beat sped up, the only thing I thought of was …

Image result for britney spears gimme more vma gif

What did you think? Was she really out of it or was it just me? I certainly hope she’s okay…

Screenshot 2019-11-25 at 5.46.04 PM.png

Anyway, moving on.

Meh, not here for Ciara, but I did love that braid.

Lizzo is the Adele for the Gen Z era. She can belt (Adele), but is also extra and over the top (like Gen Zers).

Ummm, what else happened? Billy Eilish won something and was super awkward accepting it, as did/was Post Malone. I seem to be saying this more & more each year I watch music award shows, but am I too old? I either don’t know the person or I don’t get them.

Image result for billie eilish amas

However, I do know the JoBros and was excited to watch them perform, but was disappointed that it was at one of their concerts. Kind of a let down. Then there was Camilla Cabello, who sang with my favorite youngster, Shawn Mendes. I just don’t like her, or them together, which I’ve said before. Fans on Twitter said he snubbed her for a kiss when they won an award for “Senorita” … anyone else think so? I’m still not sold that their relationship is real.

More happened: Green Day, Toni Braxton, awards, blah.  That’s my recap.

Now on to my Taylor Swift TedTalk ….

Her performance?

Image result for taylor swift ama 2019performance gif"

Everything. Everything. Everything.

Image result for taylor swift ama 2019performance gif"

Artist of the Decade. Since her performance last night I’ve been thinking quite a bit about that title and how long a decade is; how long Tay Tay has been around and at the top of her game. A decade ago I was in college. I remember sitting in my sorority sister’s car, blaring “You Belong With Me” & screaming it at the top of our lungs. Ten years doesn’t seem that long, but when you think of where you were a decade ago, how much you’ve changed yourself, think: Taylor hasn’t only been around that entire time, she’s been a superstar ever since then as well. When I say “she’s everything” it’s because she is.

Image result for taylor swift ama 2019 performance"

Currently, I’m reading Demi Moore’s biography and listening to a Marilyn Monroe podcast (I may be a new mom, but I still need my celebrity fix). Both women faced addiction and unwanted male attention as their stars rose. I mentioned earlier that Selena’s performance gave me 2007 Britney vibes. All of this led me to think about the many artists who faced scandal after scandal in their celebrity journey, but what scandal has Taylor Swift had? The fact that she’s boy crazy and wrote poems about it? Name one friend you know who didn’t (or perhaps it was you). Taylor has never had a violent moment, substance problem, or sexcapade. Rather she stands up for what she believes in and gives back where it counts. Was the worst she ever did play the victim in a misunderstanding regarding the Kardashians? Yeah, because they’re the picture perfect example of a scandal free celeb.

Image result for taylor swift ama 2019 performance

Taylor is 100% the role model, artist, musician, songwriter, storyteller, wonderful human of the decade, and once I watched her performance, I shut off the AMAs …

Until next year or at least another baby free moment…

VMAs: a GIF story & a Pocket-Sized Post

How old I feel watching MTV:

especially the VMAs

How I feel when everyone is discussing the VMAs:

As I’ve pondered numerous times, I think I’m too old for anything MTV, especially the VMAs. For that reason, I didn’t plan to recap or blog the show, however, after watching and scrolling and hearing so much about the big moments, I obviously felt I, too, had to comment.

The opener was T Swizzle & obviously one of the main reasons we were all there. During “You Need to Calm Down,” I was all …

… but then during “Lover,” I was all …

I lived for her blinged purple jacket and her guitar playing!!

Another performance I was SO PUMPED for was the JoBros! I was a little upset that it wasn’t live, but their performance (and Joe’s Canadian Tuxedo) made me …

I just love them so much!

But. The most EPIC performance of the night was Queen Lizzo!

Between her outfit, dancers, the giant inflated booty, and her singing “Good as Hell,” her performance had me like …

I may be a little late to the Lizzo hype, but I’m all in on her now! Her self acceptance and message of positivity is what the world needs more of and I’m here for her success!

Miley, Normani, Lil Nas, and many people I didn’t know also performed, along with Shawn Mendes …

… then Shawn Mendes round two with Camila Cabello …

I still don’t believe they’re actually dating. Nor, do I want to believe it. Because, while I unhealthily stan Shawn Mendes, I despise Camila Cabello (RIP Fifth Harmony), and want better for him.

In closing, the show was fun to watch, albeit a little too long for this 30 something mama, but again, always fun.

Until next year ya’ll!!

Chasing Happiness

“Hey brothers, you want to do something awesome together?”

Image result for jonas brothers chasing happiness gif

You guys. This documentary is EVERYTHING!!!

Screenshot 2019-06-04 at 10.38.33 PM.png

And I’m not even a Jonas Brother stan, at least not originally. “Burning Up” was/is probably one of my top 10 favorite songs ever, and I did buy their self titled album in college, but I didn’t closely follow them like a true stan. Watching this documentary changed all that.

Image result for jonas brothers chasing happiness gif

I’m officially a hardcore JoBro fan!

… and for so many reasons! I love their new music, think they have grown into wonderfully handsome men, am OBSESSED with their three wives, and after watching Chasing Happiness, really feel like I understand them as individuals, but also as a band. Because of the struggles and the journey they went through as siblings to where they are now, makes me appreciate them even more.

Image result for jonas brothers chasing happiness gif

I don’t want to go too much into detail about what the documentary entails (if you have Amazon Prime, go watch it NOW!). I loved how much backstory was given in regards to forming the band and getting it started, to them losing everything (which I knew nothing of). The doc then moved on to show the brothers’ successes, public scrutiny, resentment of one another, to the eventual breakup heard around the world (with so much more sprinkled in I didn’t know). The doc then covered their solo careers, plus Kevin’s life as a family man, and the strain it all put on their relationships as brothers. The most interesting part to me was their “honesty drinking game” they played in which they had to answer questions I’m assuming they wrote for each other. I felt a little bit as if I was creeping in on something too personal that I shouldn’t be a part of; the guys share that much and it’s that real.

Don’t believe me?

Go watch it for yourself!!!

Some Taylor Thoughts …

I’m a little terrified to write this (Taylor fans please don’t come for me), but here we go!

If I hadn’t played Taylor Swift all day in my classroom during passing period and work time on Friday, I’m not sure I’d be here to discuss positive thoughts about T. Swizzle. Because …

Image result for old taylor gif

Image result for old taylor gif

… and when the old Taylor died, so too did my intense love for her. Bear with me because if I don’t discuss all the Taylor baggage I’ve been carrying, then I won’t be able to get to everything wonderful that is “ME!.”

During the 1989 era, I was really loving Taylor. Was this before or after Calvin?? Because bleached blonde, rocking at Coachella, ig’s of them on vacation and at award shows was truly the best time of my Taylor fandom. (Even though I’ve been a part of the fandom since those cute curls and the sparkly guitar she rocked …).

Despite the Calvin breakup, I still held her in the highest degree, regardless of the thirst that was her, the girl squad, and the relationship with Tom Hiddleston.

Image result for tom hiddleston taylor swift

Too much?? Probs.

But then came the Kim and Kanye scandal and I guess I didn’t realize how much it bothered me. I was really upset at how Taylor just disappeared from social media and all our lives (so it seemed). See, here is where the hardcore Taylor fans will say she deserved her privacy (Britney Spears anyone?), but at the same time, no one had died; she had made a mistake, got caught, needed to own it and move on. Maybe do a 20/20 interview? I don’t know …

Boy, did she move on. While I absolutely loveddddddddd Reputation (it truly is one of my favorite albums of hers), I found myself starting to get annoyed with the theatrics of it all: the snake, the old Taylor dying, her reminding us that we can’t even have nice things, and constantly being told how betrayed she felt by the world. Then came the tour and it just all seemed so much. To me it felt like she got her feelings hurt by Kim and Kanye, went to hide under her bed covers, only to return as the “victor” (in her eyes) over all these mean people who hurt her. I’ve been so annoyed by it all, I have yet to watch her Netflix special  … and I love me some concert specials!!!

Because my feelings for Tay Tay stood in limbo, once her posts about “4/26, 4/26, 4/26” started to surface, it became too much to handle. What was with all the vague Instagram posts? I’m about to have a baby; I don’t have time to investigate Taylor Swift’s clues. On top of it, girl you’re almost 30 years old like me, stop with the gimmicks and the games; just release the darn music!

Image result for taylor swift roll eye gif

That being said …

Taylor Swift is extremely smart when it come to publicity and marketing herself because here I am rambling on and on about it all. Plus, she wouldn’t be one of the biggest stars if she wasn’t calculated in what she revealed, posted, whatever. And, the new song? “Me?” It’s a bop!

Image result for taylor swift me gif

I’m not going to go too much into details regarding my thoughts on the video. My favorite part was the snake turning into butterflies because that tells me perhaps Taylor, my girl, is truly happy again and is becoming her old self. I also loved all the colors! Like, I want to live in a world that is filtered the way the video was.

Many thought the video was cheesy or dreamy and maybe it was at times, but it worked for me.

The song …

The actual song itself is great too! I mean, who doesn’t love a feel good song? I absolutely  LOVED Brendon Urie being on it (sorry to admit, I don’t think I’d like it was much if he wasn’t on it). I loved that she’s not apologizing for who she is, while at the same time bragging about how great she is too! Perfect message!

I think the old Taylor is back. Maaaaybe not in a 180 degree turn from Snake-lor (snaky Taylor), but at least more rainbows and butterflies and COLOR which is who she truly is when you go back and listen to many of her previous albums. Happy Taylor makes me happy and I can finally admit how sorry I was to ever doubt her or question her.

But, as a true stan, isn’t that okay to do?

‘NSYNC at Coachella (a Pocket-Sized Post …)

Image result for boy band gif

Yet, that is what we are here to discuss right now: boy bands. Being thirty years old, I proudly admit I’m an early 2000’s boy band fan. I was 12 years old when ‘NSYNC’s No Strings Attached album was released, and at the time, nothing else mattered in my life but their music.

Yet, ‘NSYNC dissolved and everyone blames Justin. Well, what can I say, I’m a #JTDayOne as shown in the following evidence: Top 5 Celebs … who made your list?Super Bowl Half Time Show — I Can’t Take It Anymore, and my cellphone wallpaper. I’ve seen him solo twice now, and he forever will do no wrong in my eyes.

But before there was Justin, there was ‘NSYNC . While I love love love to see them back in the news, back on stage, anything to get them relevant again, the reunion at Coachella with Ariana didn’t sit well with me for a few reasons. Let’s dive deeper …

a) First and foremost, I hate the fact that all this shade is being thrown at JT because he wasn’t there; he was just coming off of his final show for the Man of the Woods Tour (115 shows people!). When the rumors started that the guys may be reuniting, I about 95% knew Justin wouldn’t be there, yet I held out some hope because …

b) ‘NSYNC is not ‘NSYNC if they aren’t all together. Did they sound amazing, especially with Ari’s backup? HELL YES! But it just seemed broken, and to me, ‘NSYNC was always always always be a cut above the rest. However, with it only being four of them, it seemed sad and fractured (as does any band that reunites without full members).

c) Lastly, they’re old and I get this. I’m old. Shoot, even Justin is old. He slipped and hurt his knee, plus had bruised vocal cords during this last tour. But seeing a young Ariana Grande grinding on old man JC, and then on Joey, who has a teenage daughter, was too awkward to watch.

But let’s get to the main point of all of this …

Deep down, it kills me that ‘NSYNC is no longer together and is no longer on top. I hate that the media has to pit them against Justin, even if there really isn’t bad blood (he posted a congrats to them on his IG!!). I hate that they’re old men, even if they can still sing the shiz out of songs. You guys, for me, with ‘NSYNC … ??

Image result for nostalgia gif

And I will never be over the fact that the era of this huge, precious, musical impact on my life is not the same as it was when I first experienced it. But, what kills me most of all? THIS has taken their place ….

which I refuse to understand.

American Music Awards 2018 Recap

I don’t even know why I decided to watch this award show. I don’t know any of the performers or winners besides Taylor, Mariah, and Jennifer. I mean, the AMAs I grew up obsessing over brought me moments like these …

Image result for american music awards justin and britney

Seriously, the only thing I listen to is a rotation of Taylor, Justin, and Sam Smith (with some Shawn Mendes thrown in there; I LOVE HIS NEW ALBUM!). Other than that, I only listen to podcasts. Snobby much? But, I live for an award show or possible pop culture moment, so let’s get into it!

Hour 1:

Image result for american music awards 2018 taylor swift

The beginning of the whole show was my favorite part for many reasons: a) I was still awake for it b) Taylor Taylor Taylor Taylor Taylor c) the Shawn Mendas performance (la la la la love him!), d) that Ella Mai song (!!) which is now my new jam! e) seeing Mariah (note that I didn’t type “enjoying” Mariah).

As far as everything else, I’m a little peeved Justin Timberlake wasn’t nominated for favorite pop male artist, but whatever, I get that the awards are for mainly mainstream music. I’m a lot peeved by Tracee Ellis Ross; can she be more annoying and thirsty? I don’t watch Blackish, so maybe that’s why I don’t get her. I mean, she danced well and made a few funny comments … buuuut, well, I guess I’ll just stop there. Give me more Taylor.

Hour 2:

Screenshot 2018-10-09 at 8.23.32 PM

The middle of the show started strong with Cardi B performing, again, don’t particularly love her like everyone else, but I really think it’s just me not being in tune because I’m an old lady. I still listen to music that was popular twenty years ago and I won’t change. Anyway, I was really really happy to see Shawn Mendas win an award (but for adult comtempory waaah??), could have totes skipped the Halsey performance, and while I adore JLo so much, I didn’t necessarily enjoy the song she sang and felt it was a little too plug worthy (she looked a-maze-ing though!)

Hour 3:

Image result for eeek face

I turned it off. It really had nothing to do with the show, but more so with the book I’m currently reading and wanted to finish, The Dark Matter. Oh gosh, am I officially really old? The only thing I wanted to see that I missed was the Aretha tribute (which I caught on Twitter the next day).

I find that these feelings of not enjoying music award shows increases with each one I watch. I skipped the VMAs this year, the Grammys were boring, and here we are with me shutting off with the AMAs before the show was even over. If you know anything about MHH, I live for an award show (any kind), I mean click up in the right hand of this page and see all the posts written about awards shows from the past year and half. But, I think music award shows are slowly fading into the background for me, mostly because I choose the music I listen to; I don’t let award shows or the charts decide for me.

Image result for okurrr gif

Plus, Tracee Ross Ellis is so damn annoying!

“What Are You Listening to This Weekend?”

Happy almost weekend!

It’s June 1st and currently 90 degrees where I’m at; did you get your free doughnut yet? It’s National Doughnut Day! It’s also the start of Pride Month! I think summer mode has finally hit me. Because of that, I’m ready to get this weekend started! Very much like New Music Fridays on Spotify, I’m here to offer a weekend playlist. Listen, or don’t, I don’t care … I’m going to dance either way!

Image result for housewives dancing gif

The Way I Am – Charlie Puth

“I’mma tell ’em all, I’mma tell ’em all, that you could either hate me or love me,
but that’s just the way I am”

Not only is this a fun song to dance to, but it makes me think of my students or anyone struggling to be accepted right now. Who cares right? Just do you.

Image result for the way i am charlie puth

Freaky Friday – Lil’ Dicky

“But we’ve got no choice but to turn this —– sideways …”

Watch the video; hilarious! How was this not an SNL skit because it completely gives me Digital Short vibes. There is also an Ed Sheeran, DJ Khaled, & Kendall Jenner cameo. Just watch the video; you’ll understand.

Image result for freaky friday lil dicky

Shawn Mendes – Shawn Mendes

If comedic music isn’t your thing & you prefer to take your music more serious, then I suggest listening to the new Shawn Mendes album. THE WHOLE THING IS AMAZING! Seriously, set the album to shuffle and instantly your BBQ will be a success no matter how the food tastes. It’s easy listening music. Some of my favorite songs include “Nervous,” “Where Were You in The Morning?” & “Because I Had You.” Plus his collaboration on “Youth” with Khalid makes me cry every time I listen to it.

Image result for shawn mendes album

Boy – Lala Kent

“Turn in the music up loud, play it loud like this”

I didn’t love this song when I first heard it, but I love Lala, so I kept it on my daily playlist. The more I listen to it, I love it. My favorite part is her voice on “Shout out to my girls misbehaving!” She’s such a better singer than Scheana.

268x0w

Body Language – Heidi Montag

“Lay my eyes on a sassy pearl, Heidi Montag, yeah, that’s my girl”

Keeping with the realty star music theme, let’s discuss the lost song of the millennial generation. This song brings me back to summer in Dodge City, KS. and always reminds me of two of my hometown friends. We STANNED Heidi Montag hard core. Plus Spencer raps on it! Ahhhh, so 2009!

Image result for heidi montag body language

If you’re looking for an entire playlist, might I also suggest:

  • “Push It” (Remix) by Lotus, SPYZR, & Salt-N-Pepa — great for a workout!
  • “Rivers Deep” by Gaby Barrett — take me to church girl!
  • “Nothing But Trouble” by Lil Wayne & Charlie Puth — I know it came out in 2016, but whatever.
  • “Girls Like You” by Maroon 5 ft. Cardi B — GO WATCH THE VIDEO; I’M OBSESSED!
  • Kanye’s new album??
  • any other song you’re loving right now!

I hope everyone has a fantastic weekend!

Super Bowl Half Time Show — I Can’t Take It Anymore

My name is Katy and I am a Justin Timberlake fan.

0052

Going strong 20 years now, and honestly, I don’t care whether you are or not. I wasn’t going to comment on his Halftime Show from last night’s Super Bowl but then I thought of two things. One, this is my blog and my outlet to share MY opinions and what I LOVE, and if you know me, you know the love I have for JT is unconditional & never ending. Two, I’m tired of seeing all the hate on social media he got for the performance, so I’m here to defend defend defend!

Image result for justin timberlake superbowl halftime

Before we get into the actual performance, let’s just realize we live in a world right now where no one can do right (which I totally get is the pot calling the kettle black because majority of my blog is me complaining about actors or making fun of reality stars, but whatever I’m getting cheese fries). Timberlake got hate as soon as it was announced he was performing, especially from Janet Jackson fans, but come onnnnnnnnnnnnnn! I take a firm stance that his 2004 SB performance with her (#nipplegate) was completely planned and if you think for a second that it was a “wardrobe malfunction” then …

Image result for kristen taekman you're delusional

UGH and the #JanetJacksonAppreciateDay trending on Twitter?? Again I say, come onnnnnnnnn! Anyway, people were going to go in on him from the beginning no matter what, so he had quite a bit to prove.

IMG_0119

Not everyone was rooting against him though. Lady Gaga (who is a QUEEN) tweeted out support for him before the performance, wishing him luck, as did Jimmy Fallon. So let’s get into the actual performance and see why he succeeded when so many said he failed.

First, the audio. People were saying it was fuzzy; I didn’t hear fuzz, but I’m sure if people instead heard total clarity, they’d have then said he sang poorly live. Second, the Prince tribute. People were saying it was inappropriate and more; yet if he hadn’t done one, people would have been upset. Last, singing Rock Your Body (aka the #nipplegate song); it’s one of his biggest dance hits, and to those people saying he smirked right at the “Janet Line” you’re reaching so far your arms HAVE TO be tired! Seriously, watch the footage.

Image result for youre reaching gif

I have seen Justin Timberlake in concert and let me tell you, last night’s show was IT. That was a straight thirteen minute Justin Timberlake concert. Just like at one of his shows, he’s dancing and singing, and straight PERFORMING his heart out,  fusing songs together, singing all your favorites, plus moving all over the arena! He did the same thing last night. From starting underneath the stadium, then waltzing down onto the field to the main stage, then having a center stage where he could perform from any side of it, to straight dancing on the field, to performing with a marching band (which we’ll get to in a minute) to straight dancing into the crowd! Sheesh, I’m just tired describing it all! But at an actual Timberlake concert, it’s two hours of all that (and no one is rooting for him to fail).

Image result for justin timberlake gif
I promise I’m almost done ranting, but I want to discuss my favorite part of the whole show (and it wasn’t changing one middle schooler’s life by taking a selfie with him, but props for JT for doing it!) THAT! MARCHING! BAND! during Suit & Tie! Did anyone catch the football reference?

Image result for marching band super bowl 52 halftime show

Get it? Halftime of a football game and a marching band is performing? Also, raise your hand if you knew that was the actual University of Minnesota marching band? Yeah, I didn’t think so.

Image result for marching band super bowl 52 halftime show

Well, if you’ve made it this far through the post, maybe I’ve started to convince you that his performance was outstanding and deserves credit, not criticism. If not, maybe these famous voices can help sway you because JT SLAYED AND KILLED SUPER BOWL LII!

Pocket-Sized Post: T. Swift Endgame Video

Endgame by Taylor Swift feat. Future & Ed Sheeran

Welcome to the first “Pocket-Sized Post” on My Hollywood Hangover! Basically this just means I’m too lazy to write a drawn out post regarding my topic, and let’s be honest, some of you aren’t here to read a full post either.

On the first small batch edition, we’ll be discussing Taylor’s new video. “Endgame” was initially my favorite song on Reputation so I was totes excited for the new video. (For more thoughts on the album click here: …Ready For It? Reputation Review)! From Miami, to Tokyo, to London, here are a few things I learned from the video:

Taylor drinks now.

Image result for endgame music video

I get it; she’s 28 and MORE than old enough to have a few drinks. Plus she mentions drinking and whisky on the new album. But, won’t she always seem like the sweet, young, innocent Taylor to us all? But the video does seem like she’s shoving the fact that she enjoys a cocktail down our throats, like “Heeeey! Look at me! I’m all grown up!”

At the same time, she’s almost 30, so do you girl!

Katy Perry was not there.

But was totes rumored to be in the video, right … to prove they mended things? Did I just not catch her? If reports come out later that Katy is in the video, just hidden somewhere I’ll be pissed because I was searching hard for her.

Taylor wears a nude lip.

Yet she’s wearing it AT THE EXACT MOMENT THE SONG IS QUOTING “the proof from [her] red lips.”

Image result for endgame music video

She rocks many different hair styles.

See above gif. LOVE LOVE LOVE the straightened, deep part, look. And as always, Taylor looks awesome with her hair styled any way … except when it looks drowned … as in her scenes with Future.

Overall … I liked it.

Image result for endgame music video

Keep giving us something to talk about Taylor girl!

…Ready For It? Reputation Review

Taylor Swift’s sixth studio album has been out almost a month and just became available to stream.

While I hadn’t planned on reviewing it on the blog, the more I listen to it, the more I can’t stop talking or thinking about it. So, “baby let the games begin…”

  • …Ready For It?

Perfect song to open the album. Perfect song to dance to while getting ready for a night out. This song just screams “Chapter 1” of something bigger to come (whether that’s the rest of these songs or a fun night out you’ll talk about for years), “…Ready For It?” just starts it (whatever it is) off right!

  • End Game

This. Is. My. Favorite. Song. On. The. Entire. Album! for so many reasons. I love that Future & Ed are on it; they have such an opposite sound which brings for two interesting voices into one song. Not only that but the song just makes. me. dance! It hits you like BANG!

  • I Did Something Bad

I want to see Tay Tay perform this song with a marching band playing in the background; can’t you see it during the chorus? This is a song I classify as a “banger” and keeps the momentum going after “End Game.” Brilliant lyric moment: “They’re burning all the witches even if you aren’t one/so light me up!” #byehaters

  • Don’t Blame Me

This is probably my second favorite song on the album. Lyrically, I love it, especially the chorus because it’s exactly how I feel about my husband. It also makes you want to just body roll, body roll, body roll all down the hall. Cut to about 3:05 into the song: TAYLOR’S VOICE IS COMPLETE FIRE!

  • Delicate

One of my favorite lines from the whole album: “We can’t make any promises now can we babe, but you can make me a drink.”

  • Look What You Made Me Do

While I am IN LOVE with this music video, “Look What You Made Me Do” is getting to feel like “Shake It Off.” I’ll listen to it if it’s on, I’ll sing to it, and it can get me to dance; however, it’s been overplayed to the point that I’d rather listen to something else on the album first.

Image result for look what you made me do gif

  • So It Goes…

Honestly haven’t listened to this song more than once due to the fact that I have so many other favorites … what are YOUR thoughts here?

  • Gorgeous

First, royalty is on this track in the form of Blake Lively & Ryan Reynold’s daughter at the beginning. I love Taylor’s voice on this song; it’s super fun to sing to.

  • Getaway Car

I know this song is A LOT of people’s favorite, however, not a favorite for me. I definitely don’t hate it; it’s just not one of my favorites.

  • King of My Heart

I lump this song in with “So It Goes…” and “Getaway Car.” I don’t listen to it much because I love the others more; though I don’t particularly hate it or love it. It will probably be one of those songs I’ll discover months later and wonder why I didn’t love it from the beginning. The beat is unique though and I really like where the song goes around 2:34.

  • Dancing With Our Hands Tied

Third favorite song to dance to after “End Game” and “I Did Something Bad.” It proves that the album isn’t even close to being over yet.

  • Dress

What does your mother say about these lyrics Taylor?

  • This Is Why We Can’t Have Nice Things

There is SO much I love about this song: analyzing who it’s about, the champagne and Gatsby references, the distinctive beat, the chanty chorus, her toast to her ‘real’ friends/her baby/her mama, and lastly, her scary cackle when discussing forgiveness.

  • Call It What You Want

Of all the early releases, this was my favorite. The “my baby’s fit like a daydream/walking with his head down/I’m the one he’s walking to” line is so catchy. Plus I appreciate her honesty regarding hiding away and the intensity of her relationship … call all of that what you want haters; the new Taylor tells us she could care less.

  • New Year’s Day

Anyone catch Swifty play this song acoustically during a Scandal episode? That is where I first fell in love with it. I am SO curious to know who this song is about; I’m sure there is some article somewhere with hard evidence of who it is (someone find that for me please). It’s a perfect ending to the album; soft, light, feathery.

The MHH reviews are in! This is my favorite Taylor album of them all!

Each song is better than the previous. Each song is different, a jam, and fun to not only dance to but analyze. If I had to criticize something, it’s the fact that I don’t hear much of a “girl power” message. I hear a lot of how she’s obsessed with her relationship, and was completely burned by people. Where is the message to tell all your fans who adore you to be strong, forget what others say about you, and stand on your own two feet without a man? She’s a bit, “I got a boy, I got a boy, look at how great my boy is, oh, and people were mean to me.”

Before I start getting all the TS hate mail, I’ll be the first to admit that I 100% relate to the fact that I would put out the exact same message Taylor did with this album; I would write about nothing but how great the person I’m with is, and how horrible everyone else treated me. So as the song goes, I don’t blame her.

I can’t write an honest review without playing devil’s advocate a bit, but real talk I FREAKING LOVE THIS ALBUM …maybe even more than Spencer Pratt …

And if not, I’m at least a close second.
